When to write a Will?

With nearly half of all Britons without a will when is the right time to write a will?

There are several events in your life when you should consider writing a will - below you will find some examples:

Buying your first property

Unless you have 100% mortgage there will be equity in the property to leave.

There will also be the contents of the property which you may wish for some items to go to specific friends or family.

Getting Married

When you get married you will need to write a new Will as marriage automatically revokes an existing will.

Also marriage does not ensure your spouse inherits all your estate - a Will ensures your wishes are availed.

Have Children

When you have children you need to ensure they are cared for not just financially. These areas include:

  • Guardians: Who will care for your children should both parents pass away?
  • How will any future education be funded?
  • At what age do you want your children to inherit your estate?

A well drafted Will can ensure these areas are covered.

What our visitors say...

When we were looking for information and advice on writing our Father's Will we requested the free information pack and details of our local Will writer.

We received this promptly and requested an appointment with a local consultant who really helped us to understand what needed to be in our Father's Will. The information we were given was invaluable and I would like to say thanks for this excellent service.

Jane Collins, Essex

We have tried writing our own Will but were concerned about protecting our home from care home fees later in life and so decided to use your web site to get some further details on having a Will written. The was time well spent as we have now had our Will written to ensure our estate is well protected. Thanks Writing a Will!
